Decoupling and asymmetric coupling in triple- core photonic crystal fibers
We systematically investigate the intercore coupling in triple-core photonic crystal fibers (PCFs). Coupledmode equations are developed and solved analytically in the linear approximation. We derive the eigenmodes in triple-core PCFs, in particular we model the decoupling mode and test its stability against perturbations. The coupling coefficients and the coupling length are determined experime...
متن کاملOptical Nonreciprocity in Asymmetric Optomechanical Couplers
We propose an all-optical integrated nonreciprocal device on the optomechanical platform with a large nonreciprocal bandwidth and low operating power. The device is based on an asymmetric silicon coupler consisting of two branches. One of them is a conventional strip waveguide fixed on the substrate, and the other is a freestanding nanostring suspended above a groove in the substrate. When ligh...
متن کاملAsymmetric behavior of polished polarization-maintaining couplers.
Basic asymmetric behavior is experimentally observed in a polished polarization-maintaining fiber coupler. As the two half-couplers are made to slide on top of each other, the output extinction ratio exhibits relatively large variations whose forms depend on the fiber that is selected for the input. We propose that a local distortion of the fiber birefringent axes, which could be caused by the ...
متن کاملNonlinear dual-core photonic crystal fiber couplers.
We study nonlinear modes of dual-core photonic crystal fiber couplers made of a material with the focusing Kerr nonlinearity. We find numerically the profiles of symmetric, antisymmetric, and asymmetric nonlinear modes and analyze all-optical switching generated by the instability of the symmetric mode. We also describe elliptic spatial solitons controlled by the waveguide boundaries.
متن کاملAll-optical soliton switching for the asymmetric fiber couplers
Coupled nonlinear Schrödinger (CNLS) equations for the fiber couplers with asymmetric selfphase modulation (SPM) and cross-phase modulation (XPM) are studied. With symbolic computation, oneand two-soliton solutions are obtained for the constantand variable-coefficient CNLS equations. Switching dynamics of the solitons is discussed, and effects of the second-order group-velocity dispersion β2, S...
